Scott McTominay has revealed how he gained 15kg in muscle
The midfielder has bulked up to 85kg in recent years
McTominay, who made his first team debut after rising through the ranks of the club’s youth, is now a vital member of Erik ten Hag’s squad.
But he later admitted that, prior to getting Paul Pogba’s advice, he was worried about bulking up.
The former United player informed McTominay that he wouldn’t start gaining muscular mass until he was 23.
“I think people would have their eyes opened if they knew how hard players work in the gym and the level of intensity that’s required to push yourself to achieve those goals,” the Scotland international said in an interview with FourFourTwo.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, the Scotland international explained: “I think people would have their eyes opened if they knew how hard players work in the gym, and the level of intensity that’s required to push yourself to Һit those goals.
“My body has been transformed over the past seven years. At 17 or 18 I was 70kg, at 6ft 3in; now I’m 85kg. I had to work exceptionally hard to put on muscle.
.
“I spoke to Paul Pogba about it once: he said, ‘When you get to 23, you’ll put on the muscle.’ But it didn’t happen and I remember thinking, ‘Where is it then?!’
“I’m fortunate because I’ve always had a love of the gym. I like to see marginal gains and I’m competitive in there. The same goes for diet and sleep – I’d sаy I’m disciplined and that’s something I take pride in.”
The 27-year-old has also developed into an important part of Ten Hag’s plans.
He has been a standout performer so far this season, scoring six goals from midfield across all competitions.
McTominay also captained the Red Devils against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month.
Meanwhile, he scored seven goals in 10 matches for Scotland as they qualified for Euro 2024.
