After being neglected by his previous owners for an enormous salivary tumor for an incredible six years, an adorable dog has finally received veterinary attention. According to the rescue group Long Way Home, Jake was beloved by his previous family, but they failed to take him to the vet when his face began to swell.
“Jake has had a salivary tumor for SIX YEARS, according to the owners, as they believed it was caused by a snake bite. He was raised as an indoor dog and behaves exceptionally well, is house-trained, gets along well with other dogs, and even knows how to shake.” according to the organization.
After Jake was discovered wandering in a remote area of Texas last week, Cribs for Canines began working to persuade his family to surrender him so that Jake could receive the necessary veterinary attention. Jake is being treated in Waco and has already experienced substantial relief after having a large volume of fluid drained. As stated by the organization.
We thank the excellent staff at the Texas Animal Medical Center in Waco, where Dr. Lide and his colleagues have been treating Jake and draining 1200 cc of salivary fluid from his neck. (See the last two shots to see how much difference it made!)
“For the FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS, Jake was able to turn his head. It was so easy to achieve! He is eating and defecating properly, is in good spirits and, overall, appears to be in good condition.” according to the agency.
There are no guarantees that Jake will fully recover, but devoted individuals are working tirelessly to give him the best possible chance. Follow his rescuers on Facebook by clicking here.
