Paralyzed Dog Left At Dumpster Never Thought Anybody Would Find Her

By the time a person found Susanna, she had actually almost totally quit hope.

Thrown away by her proprietor in a notorious Florida dumping ground, the young dog was found gathered up against a dumpster and barely moving. She was malnourished, exhausted and covered in fleas and ticks. She could not lift her head or stroll.

Local animal rescuer Isabel Zapata usually looks these grounds for disposed pets– which’s when she came across poor Susanna in very early May. She called Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue, and the team instantly agreed to take her in.

” Animals are just regularly dumped out there to die,” Laurie Kardon, a board member for the rescue, informed The Dodo. “It’s a extremely hazardous location because there are a lot of trucks going through there at high speeds. It’s just heartbreaking. So many do not make it.”.

Because Susanna could not walk, Zapata and others lifted her onto a tarp to get her into their truck. She remained in such bad form– but she was finally safe.

The rescuers hurried Susanna to the closest animal hospital, where they began her on liquids and ran some blood work. It showed up that she was paralyzed, and no one knew the cause. It wasn’t clear if she ‘d ever before have the ability to walk.

After a few more days of tests and getting Susanna stabilized, the rescue transferred her to Clint Moore Animal Hospital in Boca Raton. As they looked at her tests and files, they slowly started piecing together the heartbreaking details of Susanna’s past.

She didn’t have any spinal issues, and none of her bones were damaged– but she couldn’t walk due to what was likely done to her by individuals.

” She had some arthritis and physical deformities to her legs, that make us think she was simply stuffed into a crate since puppyhood,” Kardon claimed. “She was most likely in there the majority of her life and used for breeding. And when breeders are done with dogs, they simply dispose them.”.

Three-year-old Susanna had already been through so much– but it was clear she was up for the fight for her life.

” The first time I saw her, she raised her head and licked my face,” Kardon said. “I said, ‘There it is. This woman wants to live. We were mosting likely to do everything in our power to get her going again.’”.

With each other, the rescue team and vet team put together a healing plan. They would get her on a high quality food to assist her gain strength and weight, and when she was up for it, she ‘d start physical therapy.

She also needed some pain medication, which would assist ease the stiffness in her weak muscles and bones.

With plenty of great food and love, Susanna started getting power. Just over a week after being saved, the veterinarian team brought Susanna out to a rehabilitation pool to check her footing.

She began walking through the water. ” We were all in tears,” Kardon claimed. “It was such a relief.”.
