The relationship between a human and a dog is close and deep . Therefore, when one of the partners loses the feeling of mourning is inevitable.
While our immediate thoughts are about the person’s grief and the help they will need to get over the loss of their beloved pet, it is also necessary to talk about the grief that the pet is facing. Are they feeling the loss of their loved one? Do they need help to get over it?
A puppy can become depressed when its owner is absent.
The answer is a resounding yes. Dogs suffer from the death of their owners , just as humans show signs and changes in their usual behavior.
Most of them manage to overcome it, others cannot bear the void left by their owners and die shortly after. Something difficult to understand, but it is part of our reality when fidelity and love go beyond the earthly plane .
Just like humans, puppies go through a grieving process.
This is the story of Canito, an adorable little dog who for more than 13 years was a special member of his family , especially for Manuel Illanes , his father, with whom he created a beautiful bond.
It all started when Manuel’s wife, Drágica Carrasco , who lives in Angol, southern Chile, received a puppy as a gift.
Since then Manuel and Canico became inseparable . There was no place where his father went that Canico did not accompany him, he had become his best friend and guardian angel . The couple’s daughter, Jeanette, commented:
“Sometimes Canico would stare at Dad for fifteen minutes without taking his eyes off him. He felt a certain fascination for him.”
Unfortunately, as time went by, Manuel became ill with kidney failure , and his condition gradually deteriorated. Not only did his family feel like they were losing him, but the little dog seemed to understand that the person he loved most would die .
During this time Canico never abandoned him, he always accompanied him sitting at the foot of the bed, he even slept with him .
His father was talking to the little dog and the dog seemed to understand him.
Sadly, Manuel passed away and breathed his last at the side of those who loved him so much . Although the family has not yet been able to overcome the loss of Manuel, they fondly remember the love and loyalty between the two. Drágica recalled her husband’s last wish. In this regard, she said:
“Manuel told her that when she died she had to go with him, even if it was at his feet.”
