After escaping captivity, Gan Da celebrated her newfound freedom by treating herself to a selection of mouth-watering snacks. The daring elephant’s successful breakout from a trekking camp sheds light on the cruel training methods endured by numerous Asian elephants.
Gan Da, fondly called Darling, has likely spent the majority of her life at the trekking camp where she works, having few memories before that. She, like many others, was most likely taught through the rigorous method of “crushing” as she grew up in that environment.
WFFT reports that Thailand is home to over 3,500 elephants in captivity and approximately 3,200 in the wild. The organization, famous for its elephant sanctuary, is thrilled that an Australian woman has stepped up to sponsor Gan Da’s rescue and relocation to the refuge. This generous gesture not only grants Gan Da the opportunity to live a life of freedom but also warrants a big celebration.

The Elephant Refuge at the Wildlife Rescue Center has recently welcomed Gan Da after her owner requested her retirement from the tourism industry. Thanks to a successful fundraiser in Sydney, Australia, she was rescued and freed from her chains. This week, Gan Da has started a new and exciting journey towards a brighter future.
It is difficult to know exactly what Gan Da was thinking as she was brought to the sanctuary, but a glimpse at a photo showed her joyfully wagging her tail as the vehicle approached her new home.
The people at the sanctuary greeted her warmly and showed her around her new home, which was brimming with lush greenery and hidden treasures to explore.
She enjoyed a relaxing shower under the garden hose.

After returning from her trip to northern Thailand, Gan Da was overjoyed as she stepped down from the truck and savored the opportunity to stretch her legs, according to a post by WFFT. Her initial day of freedom was spent indulging in delicious treats, as she embraced her newfound liberty with gratefulness.
According to Taylor, the girl at WFFT is incredibly sweet and is relishing her newfound freedom at the sanctuary. She is gradually connecting with the other elephants there, and Taylor believes that she will soon create lasting bonds and experience a fulfilling retirement surrounded by her new elephant companions.
