Life is hard for some people who don’t even have the bare necessities. While some no longer have a place in society, others commit themselves to causes that allow them to stay. Steve’s big heart remained intact even if he no longer had material possessions.
Animals gave Steve comfort. Since 2001, the boy was homeless and wandered the streets of California (United States). If he didn’t drown during all that time it was because he had protected himself well.
In fact, he chose to help living beings in similar circumstances to his own, with the only difference being that they were dogs. So, with the little money he had, he took care of the stray dogs he found on his way. He fed them and kept them warm, often putting them before themselves.
In the end, 11 dogs stayed with him and they all kept each other company.
A makeshift vehicle
In 2016, Steve decided to leave the city to visit a friend who was in Indiana. The journey promised to be a long one, as the destination was 3,000 kilometres away. Of course, the good Samaritan didn’t have a car and no means of transport could cover such a long distance. Therefore, he could only rely on his bicycle to get there.
But Steve wasn’t alone. He could never abandon his four-legged friends, whom he had cared for all this time. So he decided to build a trailer out of scrap parts to transport all his loved ones. Thus began an ordeal for the SDF, who drove again and again, tired. At night, he camped outside in a tent.
A prosperous meeting
Steve had to take the local road to complete his journey. That’s how he caught the attention of a woman, Alicia. Even though she only looked over the edge at first, she was quickly challenged by the nomad’s exhausted state and realised that she had to help him.
The woman stopped to talk to him and her intuition was right. This man exuded kindness and she had made the right decision to stop racing. She called rescue organizations to let them know about this story and they were touched by his commitment to animals.
Steve didn’t make any requests. He just wanted his dear friends to be okay and to continue living with him. This shocked the driver even more as she was in the presence of someone who had nothing else and yet gave everything for the people he loved.
Thus, volunteers from an organization first allowed him to stay in a motel for a few nights so he wouldn’t have to sleep outside all the time. They then set up a cat shelter, which attracted a lot of donations. Steve was able to take all his dogs to the vet and buy a proper trailer thanks to the money raised. However, the best was yet to come.
The campaign raised enough money for him to be able to buy a mobile home! The gentleman’s charity attracted decent people who wanted to return the favor. Now he can sleep comfortably and his 11 housemates are safe.
