Shy dogs trapped in a dirty yard peer over the fence, desperately looking for a way out. The next thing will surprise you-dtht

Back in April, a woman named Caryn logged into Facebook and saw something shocking — a post informing readers about a group of dogs suffering in a neglected property nearby.

“[They] were found abandoned, living in squalid conditions,” the Humane Society of Mason County (HSMC) wrote in a video about the dogs.

As a volunteer for the humane society, Caryn knew she had to help. When local authorities didn’t arrive in time, Caryn took matters into her own hands and went to the property herself. Caryn’s heart broke as she locked eyes with the dogs who’d been living in this muddy mess full of dangerous broken items. There were six pups in total, including a pair of timid boys named Hank and Scooby.

Authorities eventually arrived and granted Caryn permission to coordinate the dogs’ removal. But where would all of these pups go? One dog, Henry, found refuge at People for Animal Care and Kindness. HSMC generously accommodated the rest. The rescue quickly placed another dog, Brutus, in a loving foster home. The other four — Scooby and Hank, along with their friends Tucker and Ringo — went to live with a charitable foster mom named Donna.

It wasn’t long before Tucker and Ringo found their permanent homes. But Scooby and Hank had trouble. The gentle pups were still recovering from their ordeal, trying to overcome their nervousness.

“Both boys were incredibly timid of new people, situations and loud noises,” a representative from HSMC told The Dodo. “[B]ut they thrived around other dogs, who helped give them confidence.”

Rescuers knew Scooby and Hank just had to find the right fit. Their hunch came true when, earlier this month, Scooby met his perfect match.

“After 182 days with HSMC, Scooby has finally found his forever family!” the representative said. “He loves his canine brother, and his new people will give him all the time he needs to feel safe and comfortable in his new home.”

Now, humane society volunteers are hoping Hank gets his happy ending, too.
