The moment Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, answered her phone last month, she knew something was seriously wrong. The caller, a man who worked in an industrial area outside of Los Angeles, was breathless as he described finding a lonely laundry basket at his workplace filled with fluffy puppies, and their mom was tied up next to them.
No one knew how long they had been there or where they came from, but one thing was certain: The little family was intentionally left behind. Luckily, the right person found them just in time.
“They were literally abandoned,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “Thank God a worker noticed them.”
Hall agreed to help, rushing to the industrial area as soon as she hung up the phone. The dedicated dog rescuer was relieved when she arrived to find the three pups and their mom still alert in the basket.
“Mom was wagging her tail [because] she had arrived,” Hall wrote. “She was so happy to see me. She knew help had arrived for her little family.”
Hall’s heart sank as she untied the ropes that bound the momma dog, who they later named Polly, to her puppies. She could see that they would all need medical attention — they were dehydrated and covered in ticks — but she was hopeful that they would make a full recovery at the vet.
As she carried each puppy to the car, Hall showered the family with loving affirmations and reassured them that everything would be okay. She told them how loved they were on the way to the Camino Pet Vet Center and promised to find them amazing families as soon as they were feeling better.
Polly and her puppies — Bowie, Rolly Polly and Fidget — received immediate treatment for ticks and digestive issues at the Vet Center. They were exhausted and weak, but were finally on the road to improvement.
It’s been a few weeks since the rescue, and the laundry basket family is thriving. One of the pups, Bowie, has been adopted and is now enjoying life alongside his new favorite humans.
His siblings, Rolly Polly and Fidget, and mom are still waiting for their happy endings, but Hall hopes their wishes come true soon based on their loving personalities.
“They are all the sweetest, most grateful babies you could ever imagine,” Hall told The Dodo. “Mom hasn’t stopped wagging her tail.”
