Paralysed from the waist down after a car accident as a child, Laoma said he had managed to get by working as a shoe repairman for years but that he had started to struggle to get around.

But he admitted that even though he didn’t have an electric wheelchair, with the help of his pet dog he still managed even the hardest obstacles.

He travels every day around one kilometre to get to work at his roadside stall using the DIY wheelchair that he also made himself, and his dog is always at his side.

He said: ‘Ever since the story was in the newspaper he has been even more enthusiastic about getting into work, because once he gets there his fans are waiting with all the tasty treats that he usually likes.

‘I must say that if he carries on eating like this, he will probably need a wheelchair to get around as well.’
