Vivian will soon be a beautiful puppy, but the start of this little dog’s life didn’t seem to be going so well until an Animal Protection and Rescue Law enforcement officer from the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans came to her rescue. The scared, confused, and sick puppy was found hiding behind an air conditioning unit on Friday.
The animal protection officer wasted no time and took the puppy to the shelter to receive the urgent veterinary care she needed. The shelter assessed her skin condition and diagnosed her with a severe case of demodectic mange. The condition is commonly caused by a parasite that burrows under the hair follicles of dogs and develops when a dog has an immature immune system, where the number of skin mites multiplies rapidly.
Please welcome Vivian to the Louisiana SPCA, where her treatments for demodectic mange have begun. The two-month-old pup has also been placed on a specific diet to help her gain weight. She is currently being cared for by a foster family who are providing her with the medication she needs.
