LeBron James: “Bronny is Completely Different from Me, He Doesn’t Care About Anything”

LeBron James recently shared his thoughts on his son Bronny’s remarkably relaxed demeanor, despite being in the spotlight.

Bronny James missed tonight’s game against the Warriors in the California Classic Summer League due to a swollen knee. From Las Vegas, LeBron James spoke about the pressure surrounding his son’s debut after being drafted and signed by the Lakers.

“I don’t know if people really understand Bronny,” the Lakers’ forward mused. “He doesn’t care. Honestly, I did care. When I came into the league, I wanted people to like me, and some of the things people said about me embarrassed me at the start of my career. He doesn’t care.” As Bronny himself has explained, he was born into pressure. From the moment he started playing basketball, it was there. “He doesn’t care what anyone says. He doesn’t even listen to that kind of stuff. He’s the coolest kid. He’s completely opposite from his father. His dad would say something back to critics. Bronny doesn’t care… No matter what people say about him, he doesn’t care.”

Bronny Can Do Whatever He Wants in Life

LeBron James also emphasized that comparisons between him and his son are unfounded. Their circumstances are entirely different.

“Imagine being born into a situation where your dad is super famous, super rich, and you, as a kid, are always driven to achieve things on your own,” LeBron explained. “Personally, I don’t know if I could have done it if our roles were reversed. When I was young, I had no other choice. I really had no choice… I had to do things by myself. My mom, my family, my hometown, my city… Bronny has all the options in the world.”

LeBron reminded us that Bronny has fought his way back onto the court after suffering a cardiac arrest. Everything he experiences on the court is a bonus.

“If Bronny decided to quit right now or never play basketball again, if he just wanted to be a regular college student, if he wanted to become a chef or if he wanted to be nothing at all, he can do that… People don’t understand how hard it’s been and the commitment he’s shown since his heart surgery less than a year ago, to be able to attend the NBA… This kid is unique. But he doesn’t care. Really, he doesn’t care, and it doesn’t bother him.”
