Despite missing out on ending 2023 as the world’s top scorer to his childhood idol Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappe managed an impressive tally of 52 goals for both club and country, as cited by GOAL.
This accomplishment puts him on par with Bayern Munich’s goal-scoring sensation, Harry Kane.
What 2024 looks like for Mbappe
2024 looms as a pivotal year for the Frenchman.
With just six months remaining on his PSG contract, Mbappe faces a crucial decision: whether to prolong his stay with Les Parisians or to seal a long-anticipated move to longstanding admirers Real Madrid, per The Hindu.
Aside from that, the 2022 Golden Boot winner will be poised to help France clinch the Euros, slated for Germany this summer, while he will also be expected to lead the French side in the Paris Olympics later this year.
At club level, he might want to try for the umpteenth time to push PSG to dreamland as they continue to search for the elusive Holy Grail – the UEFA Champions League.
Mbappe’s New Year’s message
With all these in sight, the 25-year-old is anticipating a “big 2024”, and it comes as no surprise that it resonates in his New Year’s message.
Mbappe wrote via X (previously known as Twitter): “Happy New Year everyone. I wish health, happiness and fulfilment to you and your loved ones. 2024 will be big!!!! 🥳🎉❤️”
Transfer window: Mbappe’s future to take centre stage
Sports Brief also reported that the future of Kylian Mbappe and his protracted courtship by Real Madrid is expected to be the key theme of the transfer window that opens in Europe on Monday.
However, much attention will once more turn to PSG’s lethal finisher. A year ago, he scored a hat-trick for France in the World Cup final but ended up on the losing side.
Real Madrid remains the primary contender for the 25-year-old, whose contract with PSG ends in June. Will the 14-time European champions finally secure a commitment from the player they’ve been chasing for years?
