Man United Star’s Superb Performance vs. Sheffield: 110 Touches, 91 Passes, 5/5 Duels Won
Harry Maguire, a Manchester United defender, was one of the standout performers in Wednesday’s 4-2 Premier League triumph over Sheffield United.
Following the injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Willy Kambwala, and Jonny Evans, the England international is the United squad’s only fit centre-back.
Despite this, his individual performances have been satisfactory. He scored in the recent FA Cup semi-final victory against Coventry City and repeated the feat against the Blades at Old Trafford last night.
Aside from his goal, Maguire won a critical penalty at 2-1, which Bruno Fernandes converted.
Fernandes went on to score his second with a fantastic strike in the 81st minute, before setting up Rasmus Hojlund for United’s first goal since February.
The club captain was unquestionably the man of the match, but Maguire also performed admirably at the back. He had 110 touches and completed 91 of his 100 pass attempts.
He also won all of his ground and aerial duels (5/5) and blocked a few shots on goal.
Despite the criticism surrounding his decision to stay last summer, the 31-year-old has enjoyed a successful season. With United’s massive defensive crisis in recent weeks, he has proven to be a critical contributor.
United has risen to sixth place in the table after snapping a four-match league winless streak. They are presently in pole position to qualify for the Europa League with five games remaining.
On Saturday afternoon, Manchester United will host Burnley at Old Trafford in the next league game. It should be another routine victory. Hopefully it will include a much-needed clean sheet.
