In the martial arts industry, there are not too many stars who can succeed in many different positions. The reputation of boxers often lies only within the limits of the ring and violent matches. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the one who crossed that boundary to spread his name to the whole world. After “The Rock”, John Cena is also going on this path.
John Cena has laid the first foundations for becoming a superstar in both the martial arts and entertainment industry. For Cena, beauty is abundant, talent is enough to make his name known to the world, he just needs more time. No matter what position you are in, a wrestler, an actor, or a singer, success will come to you if your determination is in the right place. That determination is something that Cena has in abundance because the path he has been on so far has been full of thorns, but none of them have been able to defeat him.
Struggling for life
John Cena’s birth name is John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. (born April 23, 1977) in West Newbury, Massachusetts, USA. He is the second child of five brothers: Dan, Matt, Steve and Sean. Perhaps, right from birth, God gave Cena a life full of challenges. Cena’s family was very lucky to be able to keep the newborn boy back in the world.
When he was born, John Cena had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. It was a strange symptom that made the doctors at the hospital panic. John Cena had an early struggle for his life. Luckily, he won. Since then, Cena grew up like any other normal child with his family.
As a teenager, young John Cena was skinny and weak, so when he went to school, he was often bullied by his friends. The road from Cena’s house to the bus stop is guarded by a group of “young men” from the village. Every day, when passing by this road to go to school, young John Cena was teased by the gang, pushed down 5-6 times, and sometimes had to crawl to the bus stop. The days of humiliation are also what nurtured Cena’s determination to do something.
Cena said to his father: “What do you think if I go to the gym tomorrow?” Then, Cena has been going to the gym since he was 7-8 years old. After finishing elementary school, Cena took a summer break and entered middle school. At this time, he had the appearance of an athlete and was the strongest in school even though he was only 10 years old. Since then, no “nightingale” dares to “crow” when meeting John Cena anymore.
Since starting to work out at the gym, Cena suddenly discovered that he loved it so much that he never forgot to go to the gym. Just like that, the muscles of the puberty boy grew a little thicker day by day. After graduating from Cushing Academy, Cena studied at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Just like what “The Rock” went through, John Cena also started playing football at school and wore shirt number 54.
When he was in college, Cena didn’t have too much money. The burdensome fees made it impossible for the family of five children to take good care of him. He was fired from his California gym because he could no longer pay for his training. Not wanting to give up his dream, the 18-year-old boy did everything he could to balance his life.
He ran out of money and was hungry. And then, there was a giant pizza eating contest. Whoever eats that giant cake will get it completely free. John Cena did not hesitate to step forward, solving the cake within 20 minutes. With a thicker skin, Cena came back the next day and finally, the store owner couldn’t take it anymore. He pulled John Cena back and said, “Boy, I know what you’re capable of. Just stop this, there will be free pizza whenever you want.”
Being able to afford food, Cena applied to work at a gym where Arnold Schwarzenegger was also training. Also at this gym, John Cena heard people talking about a wrestling tournament called Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW). From there, the story of wrestler John Cena began.
Wrestling legend – John Cena
Cena began training to become a professional wrestler in 2000 at Ultimate Pro UPW. From then on, Cena began using the name The Prototype. His competition videos are shown on Discovery Channel’s show Inside Pro Wrestling School. While competing in UPW, Cena held the UPW Heavyweight Championship for about a month.
In 2001, WWE saw John Cena’s potential and signed him to a developmental contract. John Cena was transferred to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). During his time here, Cena competed under the names The Prototype and Mr. P. Cena’s first successes came when he held the OVW Heavyweight Championship for three months and the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship (with Rico Constantino) for two months.
Witnessing John Cena’s remarkable development, in 2002, WWE called him back and officially debuted for this famous tournament. The time Cena first arrived in WWE was also the time when another legend, Brock Lesnar, appeared. The two had their first time competing together as teammates in tag tea matches
