Sharing on his personal Instagram page, Greenwood wrote: “I am extremely grateful to my family and Getafe fans for a wonderful season. Thank you for welcoming me warmly and making me feel like a true member.” . I enjoyed every moment of playing with my teammates and the club. Although this was a bittersweet ending, playing for you was truly a joy best.”

Greenwood joined Getafe on the last day of the 2023 summer transfer window and quickly became one of La Liga’s outstanding players. Even though he had to take a long break from competition due to an unnecessary scandal, the British star still had great performances in Spain, receiving praise from everyone.

Through 35 matches, Greenwood has had 10 goals and 6 assists, thereby contributing significantly to 12th place on the La Liga rankings, thereby helping Getafe successfully survive relegation this season.

And he played the whole ninety minutes as Getafe lost 2-1 at home to Mallorca to wrap up their LaLiga campaign.

As Greenwood approaches the last year of his United deal, his future is yet unknown.

On social media, the forward did, however, leave a message for his followers.

Thank you very much to the Getafe family and supporters for an incredible season, it said.

“I appreciate you making me feel at home and like one of your own. Together with my teammates and club, I relished every second.

“A bitter sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you; I wish you all the best.”

Fans, meantime, devised a new cry for Greenwood in what might be his last Getafe game.

“Mason, stay” was their cry at the conclusion of the Mallorca game, during Getafe’s lap of honor.

Greenwood gave them chanting a thumbs up.

Before he left via the tunnel, a few supporters in the stands sought to catch his attention after spotting him in his No. 12 shirt.

Furthermore reiterating his intention to retain the United loanee beyond this campaign is Getafe president Angel Torres.

Greenwood’s playing future is uncertain, though, despite their requests for him to stay in Spain.

For Getafe, he finished the season with 36 games and ten goals in all competitions.

It was his first season back on the field following his January 2022 suspension by the Red Devils. Nine months later, he was charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior against a woman, claims he vehemently disputed.

United took a swift U-turn after criminal charges were dismissed in February 2023, determining the player—who is under contract until summer 2025—was no longer in their plans.

Following a loan transfer last September, Greenwood has tried to rekindle his career in Europe, with a return to England looking very doubtful.

Getafe’s chances of landing another loan, meanwhile, are minimal as United is eager to cash in on the former England star before his contract expires.

President of Getafe Torres has expressed strong desire to bind Greenwood down once more. He added, though, “Nothing has changed; we still rely on Manchester United. Not that I expect any fast news.

Greenwood’s potential farewell — in which he played 90 minutes — was marred by an injury as Getafe keeper David Soria’s collided with  Mallorca’s Cyle Larin.

After receiving protracted treatment and having an ambulance brought onto the field, the Spanish goalie eventually left the field and was replaced.

Greenwood had chances before Gaston Alvarez gave his team the lead on 48 minutes.

But Vedat Muriqi and Pablo Maffeo scored two late-game goals to beat them.
