I thought my birthday would bring warm wishes, but I’m still waiting for the first one. -dtht

While walking past an abandoned yard, I suddenly heard a faint whimpering sound. It seemed there was a little puppy behind the gate. At first, the puppy didn’t come out when I called, so I decided to lure it with a piece of sausage. Hungry and curious, the little one eventually came out, but it looked quite frightened. As I stepped closer, it whimpered and backed away, clearly torn between fear and hunger. I stepped back to give it some space and gently coaxed it with reassuring words.

Slowly, the puppy overcame its fear and came forward to eat, clearly starving. It even started to trust me enough to eat from my hand. Despite its nervousness, it kept looking up at me with wide, hopeful eyes, almost as if it was asking me to take it with me. I noticed other stray dogs in the yard, likely its family, so I gently nudged the puppy back through the gate, thinking it would be better off with them. However, to my surprise, it squeezed back through the gate, wagging its tail and showing a bit of trust toward the stranger who’d just given it a meal.

I gently stroked its head and asked if it wanted to come home with me. After a bit more food, the puppy seemed to relax, so I picked it up and decided to look around the yard once more. Seeing the larger dogs inside, I wondered if one might be its mother. But with a cold front approaching, I thought it would be safer to take the puppy home, where it could stay warm and dry through the winter.

In the car, the puppy was so well-behaved and looked simply adorable. However, it seemed a bit troubled, with large, expressive eyes that held a mix of emotions. Once we got home, I wiped it down gently with a towel, knowing puppies have sensitive immune systems and shouldn’t be bathed too soon. The little one was incredibly cooperative, letting me dry its fur and clean off some fleas. Its innocent gaze and slight trembles touched my heart, so I turned up the heat to make sure it stayed warm.

After preparing a cozy bed, I watched the puppy fall asleep, curling up as snugly as a baby. I later tried putting a leash on to take it for a short walk, but it froze, too scared to move. Eventually, it wagged its tail, showing it was slowly adjusting to its new home.

The next day, my neighbor found a stray kitten, but her family wasn’t keen on adopting it, so I decided to take it in. I named the puppy “Cute” and the kitten “Snowy.” With them both being about a month old, I hoped they’d be good companions for each other. Cute had already settled in, and it excitedly wagged its tail to welcome Snowy. Snowy, still a bit shy, didn’t respond much, but Cute seemed eager to comfort its new friend. Later, I found them cuddled up and fast asleep together, a heartwarming sight that made me smile.

A few days passed, and I noticed Cute seemed quieter than usual, often staring off into the distance. I wondered if it was missing its family. After all, we had found it in an abandoned area, and perhaps it still remembered its mother and siblings. Worried about its sadness, I decided to help it look for its family. Together, we returned to the spot where I’d first found it. I set Cute on the ground, and it looked back at me, seemingly unsure of my intentions but soon trotted off to a familiar place.

As I followed closely, Cute led me to a pile of rubble, occasionally looking back to check that I was still there. Finally, it led me into an abandoned room, and there, to my amazement, was another tiny puppy, just as small and cute as Cute. I could hardly believe it had survived alone in such a desolate place. I searched the room but didn’t find any other puppies. When we left the room, both puppies stayed by the doorway, as if hoping their mother might return.

Their loyalty and bond moved me deeply. I decided to bring both puppies back home, where they’d have warmth, food, and companionship. Cute and its new sibling quickly settled in, curling up with Snowy, the little kitten, in their shared bed. Looking at them all, I felt grateful to be able to offer them a safe, loving home.
