Earlier this year, a Massachusetts state trooper experienced an unforgettable rescue mission. Trooper Carlo Mastromattei responded to a call on May 5th about an injured animal on the side of a road in Revere, a city roughly 5 miles north of Boston. Expecting to find a wounded dog, he instead discovered a small, frightened puppy, later named Marco, whose story would soon touch hearts far and wide.
The Rescue Mission
When Trooper Mastromattei arrived, he spotted the animal on a busy parkway. Instead of a dog, he saw a tiny, solitary puppy. The poor pup was scared and alone, and there was no sign of his mother. Realizing the urgency of the situation, the trooper contacted various agencies before finally calling Ocean View Kennels for assistance. Together, they rescued the puppy, placing him safely in a crate.
A Temporary Home
Officials noted that the puppy was found at the edge of a busy parkway, and his mother was nowhere to be found. The state police remarked that “the baby’s adventure was far from over.” Trooper Mastromattei took the puppy home, where he stayed with the trooper and his girlfriend for the night, providing him with much-needed comfort and safety.
Medical Evaluation and Rehabilitation
The following day, the puppy, now affectionately named Marco, was transported to Tufts Wildlife Clinic in Grafton. There, he was thoroughly examined and found to be healthy. Plans were made for Marco to be transferred to a wildlife specialist in the Berkshires for rehabilitation, with the ultimate goal of finding him a loving forever home.
Finding a Forever Home
Marco’s journey didn’t end at the wildlife clinic. He was soon taken in by a foster family who helped him adjust to his new life. Marco quickly showed his true personality, revealing himself to be a playful, affectionate, and resilient puppy. His foster family fell in love with him, and after several weeks of healing and adjustment, Marco was ready for adoption.

Fast forward six years, and Marco is now a cherished member of his forever family. His transformation from a frightened puppy found on the side of a road to a beloved family pet is nothing short of miraculous.
