On Saturday, an abandoned puppy was discovered on a highway near Wamego and has since found a new home.
During their trip to Manhattan, Coleman Electric employees found a puppy in a pet carrier. Matt McMillan and Steve McLean, with the help of the drivers, managed to stop the double-decker truck to rescue the dog.
After the rescue, McMillan cared for the puppy at the job site. Karmel, a 4-month-old retriever-lab mix, was exhausted.
“Ever since we found her, she would just sit at your feet because she’s the sweetest puppy,” McMillan said. “I think she needed to recover and get her strength back because she had slept most of the previous two days.”
Crime Stoppers is now offering larger rewards for information about a body found in west Wichita. McMillan felt like he couldn’t live without her after recently losing one of his own dogs.
On Tuesday, McMillan took the puppy to be microchipped. The original owners responded that they did not want her back when they were contacted. The dog was initially brought home from a shelter in Manhattan.
