In his adventures, there are very few things that Tom Hudson has not experienced. This famous sailboat captain and travel addict dedicated his life to exploring continents and crossing oceans in every possible way.
However, when he decided to take a canoe trip down a river one day, he never imagined it would be a unique experience.
Hudson paddled along the river, enjoying the beauty around him when he heard faint cries coming from the shore.
When he looked closer, he was in shock!
A Truly Striking Sight
At first, Hudson couldn’t determine what was causing the cries. He paddled a little closer to the shore for a better look when something caught his attention.
Suddenly, he felt overwhelmed by surprise.
There it was: a white, furry creature, deeply stuck in the mud right next to a large tree trunk.
Hudson didn’t think twice. He immediately approached the animal and realized it was a huge Great Pyrenees. The dog was trapped in the mud and completely unable to move.
“He doesn’t look well. I don’t see anyone around. There are no footprints. He’s covered in mud… it looks like he’s crying,” Hudson says in his YouTube video.
To help him, Hudson removed the trunk that was pressing on the dog’s body and then did everything possible to get the helpless ball of fur out of the mud.
The entire rescue was quite challenging, especially the next part.
After finally managing to free the dog, he carefully lifted him into his canoe and paddled away. It was a task that required sweat and immense strength, but Hudson ultimately saved the dog—and he couldn’t have been happier!
After paddling a few hundred feet away from the rescue site, Hudson saw a dock and a nearby house.
He immediately decided to stop there, hoping it was the dog’s home.
“I hope this is your home,” he told the dog.
Trusting his instincts turned out to be the right decision because knocking on that door was the best choice he could have made.
It Was Ivy’s Lucky Day!
Upon hearing Hudson’s rescue story, a man immediately ran to the dock to see the dog, recognizing his 14-year-old Great Pyrenees named Ivy.
According to the owner, Ivy had been missing for two whole days from their home.
Despite all their efforts, he and his family had been unable to find her. Apparently, after getting trapped in the mud in an inaccessible area, Ivy lost all her strength, and the only thing she could do was wait.
Seeing this poor dog reunite with her owner was truly touching. Hudson even stayed to help the family clean Ivy’s fur and give her a nice bath in the pool.
