Stevie was saved from a backyard in South Carolina (along with another dog called Wonder), where he had been chained up, likely for all eight years of his life. When Stevie initially arrived in the care of Diamonds in the Ruff, it was clear that he had a lot going on. Along with being blind, Stevie was also handling fleas, worms and missing fur. Eventually, they likewise recognized he had an old corn cob stuck in his intestines, and he needed to undergo surgical treatment to have it removed.
