Pets, especially dogs, can become some of our closest friends. Just like the story of this wandering boy and his stray dog, who found each other, relying on and protecting each other to survive.

Eleven-year-old Rommel Quemenales, from Quezon City in the Philippines, lives as a homeless child, making his way through the streets. He found companionship in a stray dog, and since that day, he has cared for and kept the dog with him, surviving by each other’s side.

Rommel doesn’t know where his family is. From a young age, he wandered through the city, seeking food alongside other orphaned children. Despite his longing to attend school like other children, his situation prevented it, leaving him with only a quiet hope. Rommel, small and thin, was often bullied by other children, and he was left to face it alone each day.

A New Friendship Brings Joy

Life took on a brighter side for Rommel when he found a new friend. This friend didn’t offer him food or assistance but was a stray dog named Badgi. From the day Rommel found Badgi wandering the streets, he took him in, sharing every bit of food he could find.

This stray dog, his constant companion, even protected him from bullies. Together, they roamed the streets by day, playing and exploring, and curled up beside each other at night, finding warmth and peace in each other’s company. In a way, they became family, filling the voids in each other’s hearts and providing a sense of comfort that neither had experienced before.

Thanks to the kindness of others, Rommel finally got the chance to attend school, a dream he had longed for. Even more heartwarming was that he and Badgi now had a true home and no longer needed to wander the streets for survival.
