The Day of the Tragedy
Lucy was living in her owner’s yard, forced to sleep outdoors in a makeshift doghouse covered with a tarp and space heater. Recently, she had given birth to two small puppies, and her maternal instincts were in full force. Tragically, the tarp covering her doghouse caught fire, and in her desperate attempt to protect her puppies, Lucy stayed behind. Sadly, her puppies did not survive the fire.
When rescuers arrived, they found Lucy severely burned but alive. It is believed that her instinct to protect her puppies is what kept her from running away from the flames. The kind-hearted veterinarians at VCA Norwalk were able to save her life, providing the immediate care and treatment she so desperately needed.
