HOUSE OF THE WEEK | Six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home owned by former Washington Wizards star includes a half-court for basketball and an arcade.
The shooting guard earlier this week listed his estate in Venice, Calif. — which includes a house of more than 8,000 square feet — for $8.5 million.
Beal’s Bethesda home, which was built in 2016 and went on the market Wednesday, has several features befitting a professional athlete with three young children. These include an arcade room, a pool, a tennis court and, naturally, an indoor half-court for basketball. The house, which has more than 13,000 square feet of living space, sits on more than two acres in the private Avenel community next to Congressional Country Club.
The listing describes the property as having an “elevated South Miami vibe,” with such features as black ceiling accents, wool-blend abstract carpets and hand-laid Italian mosaic tile.
At the front of the house, French doors open to a foyer with the dining and living rooms on either side. A family room at the rear of the first floor has three sets of French doors that open to the yard. Also on this floor, the house has offices on either side and a kitchen with a walk-in pantry, a granite center island and custom cabinets. An elevator serves all three levels of the house.
On the second floor, the primary bedroom suite has a balcony, automated shades and two walk-in closets, one with a vanity. The en suite bathroom has a heated tile floor. Two other bedrooms on this floor each have a bathroom and a walk-in closet. Two more share a bathroom.
The lower level has a bedroom with a bathroom, an arcade room and an exercise room. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the arcade room and gym overlook the indoor basketball court, which is down a flight of stairs.
The backyard, landscaped for privacy, has a tennis court with stadium lighting, a hot tub connected to the heated swimming pool, and a pool house with a cabana, an outdoor kitchen and a fire pit. The property also has a four-car garage.
Beal and his real estate agents declined to comment, but he has posted remarks about his time in Washington.
“You spend over a decade somewhere, and that place becomes more than just the team you play for,” he wrote on Instagram shortly after his trade was announced. “It becomes a part of you.”
