While he can afford almost every car in the world, which one did he treat himself to?
The Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster bills itself as “the world’s fastest and most powerful convertible”.
With a top speed of 485 km/h (300 mph), it’s just what’s needed for the greatest NBA player of all time, who seeks to be the best.
“Today was a special day,” the Hennessey Performance Instagram account said.
The caption was shared alongside a photo of the company’s CEO, John Hennessey, alongside Michael Jordan and his new frame.
They are outside the Hall of Famer’s private golf club in Florida, Grove XXIII.
“It’s an honor to build a special Venom F5 for a special friend.
Although the message is focused on the car, the photo doesn’t reveal much.
Only a fraction of its shiny carbon fiber bodywork, adorned with yellow stripes, is visible.
The Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster debuted about two years ago.
Production was launched at the end of 2022.
The coupe was only made in 24 units, making it even more coveted than the convertible.
And when production is limited, prices soar.
The Venom F5 Roadster starts at $3 million, while the coupe starts at $2.1 million.
Let’s dissect this high price.
The Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster is equipped with a mid-mounted 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
It develops 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque, through a seven-speed, single-clutch semi-automatic gearbox.
The roadster has many similarities with the coupe in the front of the car.
However, the differences start in the cabin.
A carbon fiber roof panel is removable and weighs just 8kg.
The absence of a roof increases its curb weight very slightly, which rises to 1,406 kg.
The regular F5 weighs 1,359 kg.
Innovative tempered glass, capable of withstanding temperatures above 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, is installed in the rear of the vehicle.
This allows you to see the powerful engine located behind the passenger compartment.
“We created the Venom F5 to be the ultimate expression of a hypercar,” Hennessey said at the car’s release.
Our 1,817 hp ‘Fury’ engine screams from behind the exposed cockpit, its roar unobstructed by a roof – it’s an unrivaled motoring experience.”
