Johnson has appeared in the DCEU; in the movie of the same name, he played the character of Black Adam.
With the WWE, Dwayne Johnson has been concentrating more on his wrestling profession. The actor and professional wrestler participated in his first major event match in a long time at this year’s WrestleMania 40, in honor of his membership on the board of TKO Group Holdings. Fans have praised his comeback, particularly following the incident.
Johnson’s film career looks to have taken a backseat as he returns to his WWE concentration. Johnson now has more time for new Hollywood projects, such as joining another franchise, as his live-action Moana has been delayed by a year. There have been rumors about the actor making a cameo in the MCU when he was spotted shaking hands with Marvel President Kevin Feige.
Dwayne Johnson’s encounter with Kevin Feige provokes conjecture
Dwayne Johnson starred in the contentious and financially disastrous film Black Adam prior to his most recent appearance as a cameo as Luke Hobbs in Fast X. The actor appears to have decided to focus on the WWE and taken a sabbatical from acting, making a complete comeback to the ring as the Brahma Bull.
But earlier this week, the actor was spotted at CinemaCon, promoting his next animated movie, Moana 2. According to reports, the actor will reprise his role as Maui in the 2016 follow-up, which received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Picture. Fans appeared to be more intrigued by The Rock’s conversation with another person at the event, though.
Johnson may soon be joining the franchise, according to rumors that surfaced after he was spotted shaking hands with Marvel President Kevin Feige backstage at CinemaCon. Ryan Gosling and Henry Cavill are reported to have joined the MCU, but Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby have confirmed their appearances. Marvel has acquired a lot of big names in the past year (via X).
There seems to be a strong fan base pushing for The Rock to play Apocalypse in the MCU. Although Oscar Isaac played the part in the Fox Studios production X-Men: Apocalypse, both the movie and his performance were met with unfavorable reviews. It would be ideal for an actor of Johnson’s caliber to portray Apocalypse now that the X-Men have officially been added to the MCU.
Is Dwayne Johnson Coming to Marvel Comics?
Being the face of massive franchises is nothing new for Dwayne Johnson. The actor was able to establish successful franchises from films like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jungle Cruise by starring in them. Additionally, he has played a significant role in the Fast and Furious franchise; in fact, a spinoff movie called Hobbs & Shaw was made about his character, Luke Hobbs.
Black Adam, a DCEU movie, was Johnson’s final feature film. Since 2007, the actor has been involved with DC Studios, having been cast in the role of Black Adam (via Slash Film). Nevertheless, it is said that the movie didn’t start production until 2014 and was eventually included into the DCEU shared universe. In 2022, the movie was eventually released.
Despite grossing $380 million at the box office, Black Adam was supposedly a box office failure and debuted to mixed reviews. With production costs approaching $230 million, The Hollywood Reporter observed that the movie would be lucky to break even. Following the movie, the DCEU itself collapsed, with Peter Safran and James Gunn assuming leadership roles and relaunching the series.
It might not be a terrible idea for Dwayne Johnson to think about joining the MCU after these experiences. In 2022, Giant Freakin Robot revealed that the actor had a meeting with Kevin Feige regarding the MCU character Apocalypse. Even though it was eventually denied, supporters still seem excited by the idea.
Max is presently offering Black Adam for streaming.
