The mystery began when Kameroun was traveling to California, and Semper Fidelis, whose name translates to “always faithful,” went missing. Despite her desperate efforts, including thorough searches of neighborhoods, visits to animal shelters, and the posting of countless signs, Semper seemed to have vanished without a trace. This loss was especially painful for Kameroun, who had acquired the husky as a puppy following her diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2013.

Determined to find Semper, Kameroun enlisted the help of private investigator Ana Campos. As Campos delved into the case, she suggested that Kameroun check the record on Semper’s AKC Reunite chip, which she had previously overlooked. To her surprise, Kameroun discovered that a woman had added her name to Semper’s chip on April 11, 2016. This revelation led to another shocking discovery—someone had sold her dog on Craigslist for a mere $200.

Further investigation by Campos revealed an astonishing truth: Kameroun’s own roommate had stolen and sold Semper two and a half years earlier. The roommate had claimed that Semper was lost on April 30, 2016, but in reality, the buyer had added their name to the AKC Reunite chip on April 11, 2016, without checking if Semper was already chipped.

Armed with this newfound knowledge, Kameroun took the buyer to court, seeking justice for her stolen companion. Thankfully, the judge ruled in her favor, and after an agonizing two and a half years, Semper was finally returned to her loving arms. The reunion was nothing short of miraculous, as Kameroun expressed, “I see him as an extension of myself and my heart. I am glad I have him back.”
